Kolkata, Feb 27 (NationPress) Nearly four days following the heartbreaking demise of dancer and event management expert Sutandra Chattopadhyay in a tragic accident in West Bengal's West Burdwan district while attempting to evade a group of intoxicated youths pursuing her vehicle, the state police have made their first arrest in the case.

The individual apprehended is Bablu Yadav, the owner and driver of the car that was tailing Chattopadhyay’s vehicle early on Monday.

The arrest was confirmed by the DCP of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate, Abhishek Gupta. However, three other inebriated individuals who were with Yadav at the time remain at large.

The collision on the National Highway occurred when the driver of Chattopadhyay’s vehicle accelerated and took evasive maneuvers to protect her from the aggressive youths pursuing them.

During this attempt, the vehicle carrying the victim overturned near Panagarh in the West Burdwan district, resulting in her immediate death, while the accused youths abandoned their vehicle at the scene.

In response to Yadav's arrest, the victim’s mother expressed her frustration at the slow progress, questioning why only one suspect had been detained after nearly four days. She stated, “I demand that police apprehend all the culprits and impose severe penalties on them. It is crucial that a thorough investigation is conducted. Authorities should also question those who were with my daughter during the incident. There must be no attempts to protect the guilty.”

Additionally, it has come to light that Yadav, who is a businessman dealing in automobile spare parts, has a prior criminal record. In February 2024, he was arrested by Budbud Police for involvement in the trafficking of smuggled automobile parts but was later released on bail.
