Bengaluru, April 8 (NationPress) A Bengaluru court, currently overseeing the high-profile fan murder trial, expressed strong disapproval regarding the non-appearance of key accused Kannada actor Darshan on Tuesday. The Civil and Sessions Judge emphasized that Darshan is required to attend all future sessions, stating that no justifications will be accepted for his absence.
In response, Darshan's attorney submitted a petition for exemption, citing that the actor is experiencing back pain that prevents him from attending court proceedings. The counsel requested that Darshan be excused from appearing.
Among the 17 individuals accused in this case, 16, including the principal accused Pavithra Gowda, who is Darshan's partner, were present in court.
The case has been postponed until May 20.
Despite his legal challenges, Darshan has resumed filming for his upcoming project titled "Devil". Following his release from incarceration on October 30, 2024, after being detained for 131 days, he has been busy filming in Mysuru and Rajasthan, with plans to travel to Hyderabad, as per sources. It has been reported that his back pain has intensified due to his demanding shooting schedule.
In a significant development for the actor, the Karnataka High Court permitted him to travel nationwide on February 28, lifting previous restrictions that confined him to Bengaluru and the jurisdiction of the session's court.
Darshan, along with Pavithra and 15 others, was arrested on June 11, 2024, facing charges of kidnapping and the brutal murder of Renukaswamy, a fan hailing from Chitradurga.
Renukaswamy allegedly sent offensive and inappropriate messages to Pavithra, inciting anger due to Darshan's relationship with her despite his marriage.
Sources close to Darshan indicated that Pavithra was in competition with his wife, Vijayalaxmi, over luxury items such as jewelry and cars.
She purportedly pressured Darshan to be seen publicly with her after he was spotted with his wife. This led to public disputes between Pavithra and Vijayalaxmi on social media, dividing Darshan's fanbase.
Renukaswamy, who supported Vijayalaxmi, openly criticized Pavithra, which ultimately resulted in his horrific death, according to police investigations.
The Karnataka Police have contested the bail granted to Darshan and others in the Supreme Court. On January 24, the apex court issued a notice to Darshan, Pavithra, and five others regarding the Karnataka government's appeal against the bail decision.
While granting bail, the court mandated that Darshan and the other accused must appear before it monthly.
