New Delhi, June 29 (NationPress) The Indian Embassy in Indonesia on Sunday described media reports regarding Defence Attache Captain Shiv Kumar’s alleged comments on Operation Sindoor as a “misrepresentation”. He had discussed the nation's anti-terrorism efforts deep within Pakistan on May 5.

The Defence Attache shared his insights during a seminar hosted at an Indonesian university.

"We have observed media reports concerning a presentation made by the Defence Attache at a seminar. His comments have been taken out of context, and the media’s portrayal is a misrepresentation of the intention and focus of the presentation by the speaker," stated the Embassy in a post on X.

It further emphasized that the presentation highlighted that the Indian Armed Forces operate under civilian political leadership, in contrast to certain neighboring countries.

"The objective of Operation Sindoor was to target terrorist infrastructure, and the Indian response was non-escalatory," the Embassy clarified.

India has consistently asserted that the aim of Operation Sindoor was to dismantle terror infrastructure deep within Pakistan, especially in light of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists, with a non-escalatory response.

This incident, however, sparked a renewed political debate in India, with the opposition seizing on the controversy and reiterating calls for a special session of Parliament to deliberate on 'Operation Sindoor'.

The Congress party criticized the BJP-led government for allegedly “misleading” the public.

"Initially, the Chief of Defence Staff discloses significant information in Singapore, followed by a senior defence official from Indonesia," remarked Congress leader Jairam Ramesh in a post on X, referring to CDS Gen Anil Chauhan's statements made during a security conclave in Singapore.

"But why is the Prime Minister avoiding an all-party meeting and failing to involve the Opposition? Why has the request for a special parliamentary session been dismissed?" he questioned.

Point of View

It is essential to approach the ongoing discourse surrounding Operation Sindoor with a balanced perspective. The Indian Embassy's clarification on Defence Attache Captain Shiv Kumar's comments highlights the importance of accurate reporting in maintaining public trust. While political tensions remain high, focusing on factual content ensures a more informed citizenry.
