New Delhi, March 27 (NationPress) In a pointed critique of the prior Aam Aadmi Party administration, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta expressed his approval on Friday regarding the House's acceptance of the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) reports after a significant hiatus of over 15 years.
While addressing the assembly members, Gupta remarked, “It is well known that the former government neglected to present the copies of the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) reports to the House, effectively rendering the PAC inactive.”
He highlighted that throughout the long span of 15 years, not a single report was delivered to the House. “Nevertheless, all CAG reports received by the government have now been submitted to the House and referred to the PAC and COGU (Committee on Government Undertakings),” he noted.
Emphasizing the significance of the PAC in promoting transparent and corruption-free governance, the Speaker stated that the PAC is one of the most crucial committees in the House, tasked with ensuring both executive and financial accountability.
“I am delighted that the Delhi Legislative Assembly has effectively revitalized the PAC,” he remarked, acknowledging the efforts of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s administration.
In just one year, the PAC has successfully delivered three reports based on CAG findings regarding Health, Excise, and Vehicular Pollution, Gupta mentioned.
“I extend my congratulations to the Chairperson and members of the PAC for their notable contributions,” he added.
The Speaker further commended the Committee's initiatives, stating, "It has made substantial recommendations based on its findings and reported that departments have already started implementing corrective actions to address the irregularities and deficiencies discovered in their operations.”
In line with parliamentary traditions, departments are expected to present their Action Taken Notes (ATNs) concerning the PAC's recommendations.
“Thus, all relevant departments are instructed to submit their ATNs within the designated timeframe outlined in the reports. The Legislative Assembly Secretariat is also tasked with promptly forwarding these reports to the corresponding departments for necessary follow-up actions,” Gupta stated.
