New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) In a significant act before unveiling the Delhi Budget, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet ministers paid a visit to the Hanuman Temple in the national capital on Tuesday to seek prayers and blessings.

This visit to the respected temple signifies the first budget presentation by the BJP-led government after more than 26 years in the Delhi Assembly. The budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 is anticipated to incorporate the commitments made by the BJP in its electoral manifesto, designed to tackle the city’s financial hurdles and developmental necessities.

Minister Parvesh Verma remarked on the significance of the visit, stating, "Before embarking on any auspicious endeavor, one must request God's blessings."

"This will be a historic budget, and the citizens of Delhi will celebrate," added Deputy CM Verma.

Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, commented on the budget for 2025-26, saying, "The budget is being unveiled today. It’s the second day of the Assembly session, and the populace is filled with joy, excitement, and curiosity... As this is a new government, a new era, and fresh hopes, we aspire to fulfill the expectations of the people. That is my conviction and best wishes..."

The five-day budget session commenced on March 24 with a traditional kheer ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday, a customary ritual that marks the initiation of essential financial discussions.

While addressing the media, CM Rekha Gupta underscored the importance of the budget, stating, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP is presenting the Delhi Budget after 27 years. Just as Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, we are returning after 27 years.”

On the budget session's inaugural day, Chief Minister Gupta also presented a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report to the House, which scrutinizes the financial state of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

The report disclosed that DTC’s losses had escalated by Rs 35,000 crore over the past six years, climbing from Rs 25,300 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 60,750 crore in 2021-22. The mounting losses of DTC have faced criticism from opposition parties, with members exiting the session and demanding that all 14 CAG reports be presented collectively in the House.

The ongoing discussions on the CAG reports are expected to carry on in the forthcoming days, illuminating the financial status of crucial public sector entities in Delhi.
