New Delhi, April 21 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday for opting out of the upcoming Mayoral elections on April 25, suggesting that their decision reflects internal strife and a fear of political embarrassment. In response to Delhi AAP convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj’s statement regarding the party's withdrawal from the mayoral race, CM Gupta remarked, “It’s positive that they have recognized in advance that the tide is against them.”

“Currently, AAP councillors and leaders are disillusioned with their own leadership. The party is rapidly losing influence in Delhi, and the public's trust is waning,” she stated.

CM Gupta further criticized AAP for their inconsistent stance on electoral outcomes. “When they secure victories, they herald it as proof of their popularity. However, when faced with defeats, they blame the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and the entire electoral system,” CM Gupta said during an event.

In the last elections for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), AAP achieved victory in 134 wards, while the BJP succeeded in 104, and the Congress along with Independents managed only 12. However, the dynamics within the MCD House have shifted following the election of a dozen councillors to the Parliament and the Delhi Assembly.

Defections from both AAP and Congress councillors have enhanced the BJP's presence in the Municipal House, consequently increasing their likelihood of winning the upcoming Mayoral elections.

At present, the composition of the House includes 125 AAP councillors, 115 BJP, nine Congress, and one Independent. In the previous Mayoral elections, Mahesh Khichi of AAP won narrowly due to cross-voting among AAP councillors.

Earlier, while inaugurating the Sankalp Girls Hostel at Dhirpur in Adarsh Nagar aimed at supporting civil services aspirants, CM Gupta underscored the significance of education in promoting women’s development.

“The greatest gift is the gift of education. Particularly in prestigious educational pursuits like UPSC preparation, any support provided is immensely valuable,” she stated, emphasizing the hostel's objective to aid women civil aspirants.

“This initiative should be further expanded. The outreach of Sankalp across the country must be extended. I would like to express my gratitude to our Prime Minister, who has consistently advocated for women-led development and governance,” she added.
