New Delhi, April 21 (NationPress) Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Monday condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its alleged choice to abstain from the forthcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) Mayor elections, stating that the party is experiencing turmoil and is ceding its influence to the BJP.
In an interview with IANS, Dikshit remarked that this decision highlights the party's internal disarray and diminishing strength, particularly as numerous members and supporters have recently defected to the BJP.
“It’s conceivable that their councillors or supporters have departed. There’s evident turmoil within the Aam Aadmi Party, with members transitioning to the BJP. That’s a situation they must address,” Dikshit commented, referring to AAP’s withdrawal from the mayoral race.
He lamented, “Personally, I find it regrettable. Regardless of the party, when individuals are elected under a party's banner and subsequently switch to another party, I regard that as unethical and improper.”
During a press conference, former Delhi Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, stated, "The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will stand as a robust Opposition in the MCD as well. The BJP engaged in significant rigging during the MCD elections but still faced a severe defeat. Even after that, they continued their tactics, poaching all the councillors."
She emphasized that her party does not engage in the “politics of sabotage and horse-trading” and has therefore chosen to refrain from participating in the mayoral election.
Sandeep Dikshit also addressed various issues, including comments made by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during his recent visit to the US, where he questioned the integrity of the Election Commission, citing inconsistencies in vote counts in Maharashtra.
“This is a frequent topic of discussion nowadays. What exactly is the Election Commission doing? Suddenly, after one election, there’s a dramatic increase in votes—numbers that were previously nonexistent, and all those extra votes seem to favor the BJP,” Dikshit stated.
“It’s not merely Rahul Gandhi or any one person raising these concerns; these questions are being posed by the facts themselves,” he added.
While speaking to the Indian diaspora in Boston, LoP Gandhi accused the Election Commission in India of being “compromised.”
