Sandeep Dikshit Accuses Political Rivals of Distributing Cash and Blankets Before Elections

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Senior Congress figure Sandeep Dikshit on Monday accused rival political parties of degrading voter dignity through the distribution of cash, blankets, and various goods leading up to the Delhi elections, labeling this practice as a significant affront to democratic values. He indicated his intention to lodge a formal complaint about these activities.
Pointing to recent events in East Kidwai Nagar, Dikshit charged that some parties are engaging in these tactics as election gimmicks.
“Just last night, reports emerged from East Kidwai Nagar where a party was distributing blankets and Rs 1,100 to voters. I will be filing a complaint regarding this situation. Is this the strategy you intend to employ to win elections? Do you possess no development or integrity to offer?” he questioned.
Dikshit also voiced concerns regarding issues faced by the Jat community, condemning the AAP for not supporting their reservation demands previously.
“In times of need, AAP has done nothing to aid the Jats. Presently, numerous regions in West Delhi have openly rejected AAP MLAs, displaying signs indicating they are not welcome,” he stated.
During the campaign lead-up, the Congress leader criticized competing parties for attempting to purchase votes instead of gaining the public's trust.
“If you believe that a voter’s trust can be acquired with Rs 1,100 or a blanket, you are grossly underestimating their dignity. This is bribery, not democracy,” Dikshit remarked.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is poised to officially kick off the party's campaign for the Delhi elections today with a rally that highlights the party’s commitment to contesting its opponents.
Sandeep Dikshit commented to IANS on Rahul's campaign launch, stating, “This marks the formal commencement of our campaign. Rahul Gandhi’s leadership will send a strong message throughout Delhi.
As Congress aims to regain public trust, the rally led by Rahul Gandhi will initiate his campaign on Monday with a public speech in Seelampur. This marks Gandhi’s first rally in the capital, as the party announced last week.
The 70-member Assembly is scheduled for voting on February 5, with counting taking place on February 8.
