Sandeep Dikshit to Lodge Complaint Over Distribution of Cash and Blankets Before Elections

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Monday accused political opponents of disrespecting voter dignity by distributing cash, blankets, and other material goods before the Delhi elections, labeling this as an affront to democratic values. He stated that he intends to file a complaint regarding this.
Pointing to recent events in East Kidwai Nagar, Dikshit alleged that political parties are employing cash and material goods as election strategies.
“Last night in East Kidwai Nagar, I learned about a party handing out blankets and ₹1,100 cash to voters. I will be filing a complaint regarding this. Is this how you aim to win elections? Do you lack development or integrity to offer?” he commented.
Dikshit also addressed concerns within the Jat community, condemning AAP’s previous inaction on reservation demands.
“In critical moments, AAP did nothing for the Jats. Now, numerous regions in West Delhi have outright rejected AAP MLAs, displaying signs indicating they are unwelcome,” he asserted.
As the campaign intensifies, the Congress leader criticized rival parties for attempting to purchase votes instead of earning public trust.
“If you believe that a voter’s trust can be purchased with ₹1,100 or a blanket, then you are undermining their dignity. This is bribery, not democracy,” Dikshit emphasized.
The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to officially commence the party's Delhi election campaign today with a rally that highlights the party’s readiness to confront its opponents.
Sandeep Dikshit, speaking to IANS regarding Rahul initiating the campaign, remarked, “This marks the formal start of our campaign. Rahul Gandhi’s leadership will convey a significant message throughout Delhi.
As Congress aims to regain trust, the rally led by Rahul Gandhi is set to kick off his campaign on Monday with a public address in Seelampur. This will be Gandhi’s inaugural rally in the capital, as announced by the party last week.
The 70-member Assembly is scheduled to vote on February 5, with counting slated for February 8.
