New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) Sandeep Dikshit, the Congress candidate for the New Delhi Assembly constituency, expressed a strong sense of confidence in achieving a victory in the forthcoming elections as he prepares to file his nomination today.
Dikshit reflected on his engagements with the public, stating he is optimistic about the party's prospects, noting that his interactions with residents have indicated a favorable shift in sentiment toward the Congress.
"I have a very good feeling about our chances," he remarked, adding that after engaging with many individuals and assessing their views on other political groups, he recognized a growing support for Congress.
He stressed that understanding the public's mood is essential in shaping his perspective for the elections. Dikshit also expressed his belief that voters are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the performance of the AAP government.
Regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding BJP leader Parvesh Verma, including an FIR related to his actions at a temple, Dikshit commented on the allegations, particularly the incident involving the distribution of shoes.
He denounced such tactics, stating, "These actions are not representative of someone dedicated to social service. Our focus is on public service, not merely handing out charity." He asserted that politics should center around policies rather than making promises through material giveaways.
"If even a few voters change their votes based on inducements, it undermines the very essence of democracy," he added.
Dikshit also commented on the recent approval by the Ministry of Home Affairs for a money laundering case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, noting that this was anticipated due to ongoing rumors and the financial irregularities noted during elections in Goa and Punjab.
"We had observed significant financial activity by the Aam Aadmi Party on the ground," he said. He also referenced a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India that highlighted financial misconduct within Kejriwal's party.
The election for the 70-member Assembly in Delhi is scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.
