New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit officially submitted his nomination for the New Delhi Assembly seat on Thursday, ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Prior to this, Dikshit orchestrated a rally for his nomination, joined by prominent Congress figures, relatives, friends, and party supporters, who rallied for his cause along the route.

In a statement to the press, Dikshit criticized rival parties for purportedly distributing freebies to sway voters.

"This election should focus on the progress of Delhi. Yet, some individuals are doling out free goods to the public. If elections proceed in this fashion, what’s the essence of democracy? We may as well initiate a delivery service where the one who sends the most money wins," he stated.

Regarding the defamation lawsuits he has initiated against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP MP Sanjay Singh, Dikshit mentioned, "The court has sent notices to both Singh and Atishi, requesting them to respond by January 27. Should they fail to present evidence, we will ensure they face imprisonment. It’s been eight days, and no proof has been provided. If Atishi cannot substantiate her claims, she will face jail time."

Dikshit’s family and Congress leaders voiced their optimism about his success.

In an interview with IANS, his spouse, Mona Dikshit, remarked, "Sandeep is diligently campaigning for this election. His objective is to visit every household within the New Delhi Assembly constituency. The previous MLA, Arvind Kejriwal, didn’t visit his constituency even once. Our goal is to ensure all issues are addressed."

Congress state head Devender Yadav informed IANS, "Since Sandeep Dikshit’s candidacy announcement, both Kejriwal and the BJP have taken a defensive stance. This signifies that Sandeep is gaining momentum and solid backing from Congress. On February 8, he will not only win but Congress will also reclaim its position in Delhi."

Additionally, senior Congress figure Pawan Khera stated to IANS, "The party workers are filled with enthusiasm, and voters are keen to express their discontent for the perceived betrayal over the last decade. The residents of New Delhi are eager to unseat Arvind Kejriwal, and they trust Sandeep Dikshit is capable of achieving this."

Congress leader Ajay Maken affirmed the support, declaring, "Congress will triumph in Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit will win, and Kejriwal will lose."

Dikshit is up against a formidable challenge from AAP’s national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BJP’s Parvesh Verma.

The elections for Delhi's 70-member Assembly are slated for February 5, with results to be revealed on February 8.
