Sandeep Dikshit Initiates Legal Action Against AAP's Atishi and Sanjay Singh Over Allegations of Financial Support

New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) Sandeep Dikshit, a senior leader of the Congress party and candidate for the New Delhi Assembly seat, has filed defamation lawsuits against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday.

This action follows accusations made by the two leaders during a recent press conference, where they suggested that he had received financial backing from the BJP in the lead-up to the elections.

Atishi and Singh claimed that the BJP was providing support to Congress candidates in the ongoing Delhi Assembly elections.

Atishi asserted, "Sandeep Dikshit and the Congress candidate for Jangpura, Farhad Suri, are receiving BJP support. It is now clear that Congress has a connection with the BJP in the Delhi elections."

Sanjay Singh remarked, "During the Lok Sabha elections, AAP campaigned for Congress as part of the INDIA bloc's strategy. Yet, Congress seems to be acting contrary to the spirit of this alliance. It appears their candidates and funding are sourced directly from the BJP."

In response to these claims, Dikshit labeled them as groundless.

In a conversation with IANS, he stated, "Recently, Atishi asserted that Farhad Suri and I received crores of rupees in cash from the BJP. Such an assertion indicates that I am a criminal deserving of investigation under the PMLA, ED, and Prevention of Corruption Act. I requested evidence back then, but none was provided."

"Therefore, I am initiating both civil and criminal defamation lawsuits against her. At the press conference, both Atishi and Sanjay Singh were present. I had previously cautioned them to either furnish proof or face legal repercussions," he continued.

Dikshit, the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, is contesting in the New Delhi Assembly constituency against former Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and BJP candidate Parvesh Verma.

When questioned about the INDIA bloc parties providing support to AAP in the Delhi Assembly elections, Dikshit clarified that the coalition was never meant for regional politics.

"The INDIA bloc was established at the national level. It was never suggested that it would hold particular relevance at the state level. The decision of which party supports whom is theirs to make," he explained.

He further elaborated, "At the national level, every party desires to unite under the leadership of Congress. However, at the state level, some parties may believe that backing Congress could undermine their own standing. This might clarify why they are opposing Congress in Delhi."

The initiation of these defamation cases signifies a crucial shift in the political landscape of the Delhi Assembly elections, further emphasizing the escalating tensions within the INDIA bloc at the state level.
