Sandeep Dikshit to Lodge Complaint Over Cash and Blanket Distribution Before Elections

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Monday accused his political rivals of compromising voter dignity by handing out cash, blankets, and other material goods in advance of the Delhi elections, deeming this an affront to democratic principles. He announced his intention to file a complaint regarding these actions.

Pointing to recent occurrences in East Kidwai Nagar, Dikshit alleged that parties are resorting to cash and material goods as electoral tricks.

“Just last night in East Kidwai Nagar, I learned that a party was distributing blankets and cash amounting to Rs 1,100 to voters. I am going to file a complaint about this. Is this how you intend to win elections? Do you lack the development or integrity to offer?” he stated.

Dikshit also expressed concerns regarding the Jat community's grievances, criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its past inaction on reservation demands.

“In critical moments, AAP did nothing for the Jats. Now, many regions in West Delhi have made it clear they do not welcome AAP MLAs by putting up signs,” he asserted.

As the campaign intensifies, the Congress leader also criticized rival parties for trying to purchase votes instead of earning the public's trust.

“If you believe that a voter’s trust can be purchased with Rs 1,100 or a blanket, then you are showing utter disrespect for their dignity. This is bribery, not democracy,” Dikshit remarked.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to formally commence the party's Delhi election campaign today with a rally that emphasizes the party’s readiness to confront its competitors.

Sandeep Dikshit, speaking to IANS about Rahul's campaign kickoff, remarked, “This marks the official start of our campaign. Rahul Gandhi’s leadership will convey a strong message throughout Delhi.”

As Congress aims to restore trust, the rally led by Rahul Gandhi will initiate his campaign on Monday with a public address in Seelampur. This event will be Gandhi’s first rally in the capital, as the party announced last week.

The 70-member Assembly is scheduled to cast votes on February 5, with the counting taking place on February 8.
