Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Challenges Kejriwal: Real Questions Demand Answers
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, asserted on Friday that former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of the AAP is already deemed guilty by the citizens of the city. She emphasized that the relief granted to him by the trial court regarding the liquor policy scandal should not be misconstrued as the ultimate truth, but rather just a phase of the legal proceedings.
“The ultimate reality will come to light, and hence, Kejriwal should refrain from sobbing crocodile tears,” the CM remarked, targeting the AAP National Convenor, who visibly broke down in front of journalists after the trial court discharged him and others involved in this case on Friday.
CM Gupta reiterated that her administration holds the judiciary in high regard and respects court rulings. Nonetheless, she criticized the portrayal of this ruling as a “clean chit,” describing it as misleading.
“The court's ruling mentioned a ‘lack of evidence’. It's crucial to understand that insufficient evidence does not equate to complete innocence. The legal journey is not over, and the case could be escalated to the High Court,” stated the CM.
She expressed her intention to pose several questions that the residents of Delhi deserve to have answered.
“If the liquor policy was truly beneficial and revenue-boosting, why was it rescinded immediately after the investigation commenced? What prompted the reversal from the new policy back to the old one? If the policy had no shortcomings, why was it not sustained? Why did the wholesale profit margin jump from five percent to twelve percent, and who reaped the benefits? What were the reasons behind the modifications to the licensing framework that led to significant concerns? Under what conditions were these alterations implemented, and who actually benefitted?” she inquired.
During the investigation, it surfaced that approximately 160 to 170 mobile phones were replaced over a span of about 200 days. Why was such a high volume of phone replacement necessary? she questioned.
“Why were there doubts raised about the digital records? If there was nothing to conceal, why did such a situation arise? All of these factors generate substantial suspicion,” she noted.
“The Supreme Court had previously identified prima facie signs of extensive financial transactions in its orders. Similarly, the Delhi High Court had also regarded the matter as serious,” remarked Rekha Gupta.
She pointed out that the CAG report indicated a potential revenue shortfall amounting to thousands of crores of rupees.
“Those funds belong to the citizens of Delhi. The greatest capital of any government is public confidence. If that trust has been compromised, accountability must be ensured. If one claims to be ‘staunchly honest,’ why are there accusations of dodging investigations? Why do reports suggest that summons were ignored? A genuinely honest leader confronts inquiries rather than evades them,” she asserted.
CM Gupta concluded by stating that the people of Delhi have already cast their political judgment, adding that the judicial process will progress.
“Higher courts will reassess the evidence, and the facts will come forth. We have complete faith in the judicial system,” emphasized Rekha Gupta.
She firmly stated that adhering to the law is a universal obligation, but accountability is paramount, and the truth will eventually emerge, with the final verdict still pending.
