New Delhi, June 20 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated on Friday that former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal is required to present himself in a city court to address the repercussions of his alleged 'sins'.
This latest criticism of Kejriwal regarding supposed corruption emerges just as AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia appeared before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for questioning related to an alleged classroom scam.
CM Rekha asserted that both Kejriwal and all AAP leaders will be compelled to face trial in court.
She noted that while Kejriwal may have fled to Punjab, this 'fugitive' will ultimately face the consequences of his actions in Delhi. “Kejriwal will have to return from Punjab,” she remarked.
Delhi PWD Minister Pravesh Singh also criticized Sisodia for purported corrupt practices. "Manish Sisodia has engaged in theft. He orchestrated a substantial scam under the guise of education,” he accused.
“Many schools constructed four years ago with thin concrete roofs are now showing signs of cracks. Water leaks through them, making classrooms uninhabitable for children,” he elaborated.
In response, the Leader of Opposition and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi condemned what she termed harassment of AAP leaders by investigative agencies.
"Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been summoned for questioning in a fabricated 'classroom scam.' This unfounded allegation has been weaponized by the ED, CBI, Income Tax Department, and Delhi Police to launch baseless cases against AAP leaders..." she stated.
Prior to entering the ACB office, Sisodia accused the BJP of misusing investigative bodies for political retribution.
“Exceptional schools were established in Delhi, and quality education was provided; the entire nation is aware of this. The BJP merely files false FIRs and perpetuates cases lacking substance,” Sisodia asserted.
His questioning is linked to a First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the ACB on April 30, alleging discrepancies in the construction of 12,748 classrooms or semi-permanent structures in government schools.
The ACB claims the alleged scam involved awarding contracts at inflated rates, with each classroom reportedly costing Rs 24.86 lakh, nearly five times the standard cost. Investigators assert that contracts were awarded to 34 contractors, many of whom had ties to the AAP.
Additional allegations suggest that the semi-permanent structures (SPS), intended to last around 30 years, were priced similarly to more robust Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) buildings, which generally have a lifespan of 75 years. The ACB also reported that an extra Rs 326 crore was added to the project cost without issuing new tenders.
