Will Age Relaxation for JKAS Aspirants Be Approved Before Tomorrow's Exam?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Srinagar, Dec 6 (NationPress) The debate surrounding age relaxation for candidates of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) competitive exams has intensified as the examination is set to commence tomorrow. There remains uncertainty regarding whether the age relaxation proposal, which was reportedly cleared by the cabinet, has received the green light from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Expressing her concerns, former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti took to X, stating, "Aspirants of the JKPSC CCE are caught in a tussle between the LG and the CM. In this freezing cold, they are out on the streets asking for nothing more than basic fairness - age relaxation and a reasonable exam schedule."
She further urged both the @OfficeOfLGJandK and @OmarAbdullah to intervene and resolve the matter promptly.
Joining the call for action, CPI(M) leader and MLA M.Y. Tarigami highlighted the plight of hundreds of aspirants who might be ineligible to take the exam due to the pending decision on the upper age limit. He remarked, "The proposal to enhance the upper age limit for JKAS aspirants is still awaiting approval from Raj Bhavan, even while the examination is set to take place. Conducting the test under these circumstances puts the aspirants at a distinct disadvantage."
Furthermore, he noted that numerous candidates traveling from outside Jammu and Kashmir are stranded due to flight cancellations. He advocated for the examination to be postponed until the approval process is fully concluded.
The exam is scheduled for tomorrow across Jammu and Kashmir, with the Public Service Commission already issuing admit cards to the candidates.
Tanvir Sadiq, chief spokesperson of the ruling National Conference (NC) and MLA, confirmed that the proposal to relax the upper age limit has been sent to Manoj Sinha for his approval.
As of now, there has been no official word from the Jammu and Kashmir Lok Bhawan.
