Will the Jammu and Kashmir PSC Hold Exams as Scheduled Tomorrow?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Dec 6 (NationPress) In the midst of rising tensions regarding the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) examination, especially with the absence of any official announcement about age relaxation for candidates and the disruption of air travel for the past five days, the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission confirmed on Saturday that the exam will proceed as planned on Sunday.
Arun Kumar Choudhary, the Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission, stated on Saturday evening that the JKAS exam will occur according to the previously established timetable.
This announcement from the Chairman of the Public Service Commission came shortly after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah requested a postponement of the exam for a reasonable period, highlighting the significant challenges posed by the ongoing disruption in air services and the delay in implementing the proposed age relaxation for candidates.
Abdullah's letter to the Public Service Commission Chairman followed a statement from Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha, who noted that no file regarding the JKAS exam schedule had been forwarded to him by the government.
On social media, L-G Sinha remarked, "Information circulating regarding the JKPSC exam is misleading. The Lok Bhavan received the related file on December 2, 2025, which was solely about Age Relaxation.
"The file was returned the same day, December 2, with a question on whether it would be logistically feasible to conduct the exam on December 7, incorporating adjustments in eligibility criteria at such a late stage."
"After four days, the Lok Bhavan did not receive a response. I genuinely empathize with the young candidates," the L-G added.
The advertisement for the examination was issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission on August 22, 2025, and it was officially announced to take place on December 7, via a notice on November 6.
The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission has already distributed admit cards to candidates for the exam scheduled for Sunday throughout the Union Territory.
Tanvir Sadiq, spokesperson for the National Conference (NC) and MLA, mentioned that the file concerning age relaxation for JKAS candidates had already been submitted for approval to the Lok Bhavan.
Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister and President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday appealed to both the L-G and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to assist the hundreds of candidates who are currently uncertain about their eligibility for the upcoming exam.
CPI-M leader and MLA, M.Y. Tarigami, also expressed sympathy for the candidates who are awaiting clarity on the age relaxation matter affecting those attending the JKAS exam on Sunday.
