Delhi Elections: Congress Unveils Rs 25 Lakh Health Insurance Initiative for All Residents

New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) Former Delhi Health Minister, Dr Narendra Nath stated on Thursday that the Delhi Congress' Rs 25 lakh Jeevan Raksha Yojana, a universal health initiative, will offer complimentary health insurance to all Delhi residents, as part of the party's right to health initiative.
The senior leader of Delhi Congress asserted that the health insurance being proposed by the party will not resemble the 70 promises made by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, which remain unfulfilled despite his decade-long rule.
Dr. Nath emphasized that Congress will fulfill all its commitments as soon as they assume power.
He criticized the AAP government's 'Mohalla Clinics', stating that these facilities were established on pavements and lacked essential medications, medical staff, and equipment, yet Kejriwal claims credit for the so-called “Delhi model” of healthcare.
The Delhi Congress leader pointed out that the deteriorating condition of government hospitals has compelled the High Court to take action and form a committee to oversee the crumbling state of these institutions, thereby exposing Kejriwal’s falsehoods.
During a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, Dr. Nath remarked that Congress' health insurance initiative is urgently required as Delhi has turned into a 'gas chamber'.
He noted that during its governance, the Congress party had established 48,000 hospital beds, set up 16 medical colleges, and developed seven major specialty hospitals, contributing to a total of 95 significant hospitals in the city, whereas the Kejriwal administration has devastated the health sector.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens were left in dire situations, with many placed on ventilators due to a shortage of medical oxygen, beds, medications, and ambulances, he explained.
The former Delhi health minister lamented that many individuals perished without receiving timely medical attention amid the raging pandemic, while Kejriwal remained in his ‘Sheesh Mahal’ - the refurbished Chief Minister’s residence.
Dr. Nath remarked that the Congress government in Rajasthan, led by Ashok Gehlot, was the first to implement the Rs 25 lakh universal healthcare scheme, which benefited the entire population of the state without discrimination.
He assured that similar to Rajasthan, the 'Jeevan Raksha Yojana' in Delhi will encompass both government and private hospitals, catering to residents from birth until death.
