New Delhi, April 23: Rahul Meena, the accused in the brutal rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman — daughter of an IRS officer — has been arrested by Delhi Police after a swift multi-team investigation. The horrific crime took place on Wednesday morning at the bureaucrat's residence in Kailash Hills, southeast Delhi. Police tracked the accused using three critical digital clues within hours of the incident.

How the Crime Unfolded

According to investigators, the victim was studying in her room when Rahul Meena entered the house, claiming her mother had called him inside. He demanded money from her, stating he urgently needed cash. When she refused, a verbal altercation broke out between the two.

In a fit of rage, the accused struck the victim repeatedly on the face with a lamp, leaving her with multiple bruises across her face and body. Once she was rendered unconscious due to severe head injuries, he allegedly raped her.

After the assault, Meena dragged the victim's body to another room where lockers were kept. He used her finger to unlock a fingerprint-secured locker and broke open a second locker using a screwdriver. He then collected jewellery and cash, stuffing the valuables into a bag.

Accused Changes Clothes, Flees to Railway Station

Since his pants were stained with blood, Meena changed into trousers belonging to the victim's brother before fleeing. He headed toward the railway station after leaving the premises.

CCTV footage captured him entering the colony at approximately 6:30 a.m., entering the house nine minutes later, and leaving at around 7:20 a.m. — nearly an hour after his arrival. Investigators confirmed that the victim was strangled with a phone charger, and the accused escaped with approximately Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and jewellery.

Three Digital Clues That Led to Arrest

Following the incident, Delhi Police formed multiple special teams and reviewed extensive CCTV footage from surrounding areas. It emerged that Meena was not using his personal mobile phone — he had stolen a handset during a prior harassment incident in Alwar, Rajasthan, and used it to evade law enforcement.

Further digital investigation revealed that he had checked into a hotel in Dwarka, where he accessed the internet via the hotel's Wi-Fi network. During this period, he remained in contact with a relative residing in Gurugram through Instagram.

By analysing Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR) and deploying digital surveillance techniques, police pinpointed his exact location. After questioning the relative, additional inputs were gathered, and Rahul Meena was arrested from the Dwarka hotel where he had been hiding.

Investigation Status and Legal Proceedings

The Amar Colony area police, along with southeast Delhi crime units, coordinated the arrest. The accused is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including rape and murder.

Authorities have confirmed that forensic evidence, CCTV recordings, and digital data have been secured as part of the chargesheet preparation. The case has drawn significant public attention and political scrutiny, with demands for fast-track court proceedings.
