New Delhi, Aug 3 (NationPress) In an incredible development, the Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell (ARSC) of Delhi Police's Crime Branch has apprehended a life convict who has been on the run for 26 years.
Raj Kishore, known as Bade Lalla, aged 55, was found guilty of kidnapping and murdering an eight-year-old boy in 1993. He had been evading the law since 1999 after his release on parole.
Authorities reported that Raj Kishore, who hailed from Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh, had abducted the son of a garment factory owner, demanding a ransom of Rs 30,000.
Once he received the money, he strangled the child and disposed of the body in a drain near Kalyanpuri.
A case was filed under IPC Sections 302, 363, and 364A at PS Kalyanpuri. In 1996, a Delhi court sentenced him to life imprisonment. However, he was granted six weeks' parole by the Delhi High Court in 1999, after which he vanished.
His appeal was rejected in 2009, and he was labeled a proclaimed offender in 2014.
The ARSC team, led by Inspectors Mangesh Tyagi and Robin Tyagi under ACP Pankaj Arora, initiated an exhaustive search. A tip-off from Head Constable Mintu Yadav led to Kishore's discovery in Kanpur.
Despite numerous setbacks due to local protection for the fugitive, the team successfully arrested him in Khoda Colony, Ghaziabad, on Saturday.
During interrogation, Kishore disclosed that he had been hiding across India—in Patna for four years, Jaipur for 13, and Barnala for three.
"During this period of hiding, he would occasionally visit his hometown in Kanpur. Later, during the Covid period, he returned to his native region and set up a tailoring shop in Kanpur Dehat," stated Delhi Police.
This arrest concludes a two-month-long operation involving over 10 officers and a mix of technical surveillance and human intelligence.
