Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday, 27 August 2026, attended the valedictory ceremony of the 'Prabodhan' Induction Programme-2026 at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) in New Delhi, calling on women students to rise as creators and innovators who will shape a developed India. The event also saw the inauguration of the university's new state-of-the-art lecture hall complex.

Lieutenant Governor Sandhu praised IGDTUW's sustained efforts to expand opportunities for women in technical education and emerging technologies. He emphasised that empowering women through technical fields goes beyond individual growth — it is central to strengthening women's participation in national development and leadership.

Addressing the incoming batch directly, Sandhu said the students were not merely preparing for jobs, but preparing to shape India's future. 'Their responsibility, therefore, is not limited to using technology; they must become creators and innovators of technology and give a new direction to the country's future,' he said.

He highlighted that their generation holds the opportunity to develop technologies capable of transforming healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing and governance — virtually every dimension of daily life.

New Lecture Hall Complex Inaugurated

A key highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of IGDTUW's new lecture hall complex, equipped with modern academic infrastructure designed to support teaching, interaction, and knowledge exchange. Officials described it as a significant step toward providing students with a contemporary learning environment aligned with global standards.

Chief Minister Gupta on Women-Led Development

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta struck an aspirational note, observing that daughters today are leading across engineering, technology, science, space and defence. She urged students to move beyond consuming existing technologies and instead become builders of artificial intelligence (AI) and next-generation solutions.

'Students should not limit themselves to using existing technologies, but should become builders of AI and new technologies and develop solutions for the future,' she said. Gupta called on students to cultivate curiosity, courage and character — and to aim at becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

She reaffirmed that the Delhi government's commitment is to ensure every daughter in the national capital receives equal access to quality education, modern infrastructure, skill development, and opportunities to advance her talent. 'Women's participation will be decisive in building a developed Delhi and a developed India,' she added.

IGDTUW Placement Record Reflects Growing Momentum

The event drew attention to IGDTUW's strengthening placement outcomes. During the most recent placement season, students received more than 1,000 placement offers, with the highest package recorded at ₹1 crore — a figure that underscores the rising market value of women graduates in technical disciplines.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood was also present at the ceremony. The word 'Prabodhan' translates to awakening, and the induction programme was designed to familiarise new students with the university's academic environment, institutional culture, and the full spectrum of opportunities available to them.

With women's enrolment in technical education growing and institutions like IGDTUW expanding infrastructure, the trajectory points toward a more inclusive engineering and innovation ecosystem in India's capital — one that both speakers argued is essential to the country's broader development ambitions.
