Delhi L-G T.S. Sandhu inspects Narela flats, education hub land
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Chairman T.S. Sandhu on Monday, 2 November 2026, visited Narela to review key development initiatives underway in the area, including ready-to-move DDA flats, land allotted for an integrated education hub, and the preparedness of the first sector under the Land Pooling Policy. The visit underscores the DDA's push to position Narela as a planned residential and educational destination in Delhi's growth corridor.
What Sandhu Reviewed on the Ground
Sandhu inspected DDA's ready-to-move flats in Narela, reaffirming the housing authority's stated commitment to affordable housing in the capital. He also reviewed land allotted to state universities in Sectors G7/G8 for an integrated education hub, and assessed the preparedness of Sector 8B (Zone P-II) — designated as the first sector to be developed under Delhi's Land Pooling Policy.
In a post on X, Sandhu wrote: 'Inspected DDA's ready-to-move flats, reaffirming our commitment to providing quality, affordable housing in Delhi. Also reviewed land allotted to State universities in Sectors G7/G8 for an integrated education hub, and the preparedness of Sector 8B (Zone P-II) — the first sector under the Land Pooling Policy.'
DDA's Awaas Nivesh Yojana 2026: Demand Outpaces Supply
The inspection comes on the heels of a strong market response to DDA's housing scheme for Narela. The initial offering of over 2,500 LIG (Lower Income Group) flats was met with overwhelming interest, with bookings reportedly closing within two hours of the portal going live.
Encouraged by that response, the DDA on 29 October launched an additional 1,648 LIG flats in Pocket 1, Sectors G2–G6, Narela, under the Awaas Nivesh Yojana 2026. These units are being offered at a flat 25 per cent discount, priced at approximately ₹14.95 lakh per flat. Each flat has an approximate plinth area of 49.90 square metres, including common areas, and allotment is on a First Come, First Served (FCFS) basis via DDA's Awaas Portal.
Infrastructure Driving Narela's Residential Case
The DDA has highlighted several infrastructure projects that it says underpin Narela's long-term residential potential. These include an upcoming Delhi Metro station on the Rithala–Narela–Kundli corridor, a proposed Narela Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) station, and road access via Urban Extension Road (UER)-I, UER-II, and GT Karnal Road.
Sports infrastructure in the pipeline includes the Narela Sports Complex in Sector A-7 and a proposed Multi-Sports Integrated Stadium. Planned green spaces and civic amenities, the DDA said, further strengthen the area's residential appeal.
Education Hub and Land Pooling Policy
The education hub planned for Sectors G2–G6 will see land allotted to multiple universities, positioning Narela as a potential knowledge corridor in north Delhi. The Land Pooling Policy, under which Sector 8B is the pilot, aims to bring private landowners into planned urban development by pooling fragmented plots for organised infrastructure delivery — a model the DDA has been attempting to scale for over a decade.
With transport, education, housing, and sports infrastructure converging in a single corridor, Narela's transformation into a planned satellite township will be closely watched as a test case for Delhi's urban expansion blueprint.
