New Delhi, Sep 25 (NationPress) The Delhi Police have successfully dismantled an extortion syndicate with the apprehension of three prominent figures from the Kala Jathedi gang, officials reported on Thursday.
The trio was taken into custody at a restaurant situated in Janakpuri, in the heart of the national capital. Authorities recovered two country-manufactured pistols along with two live cartridges. Additionally, police confiscated two scooters and various other items.
As per a press release from the Delhi Police, a report of extortion was filed at the Hari Nagar police station on September 18, following alerts regarding threats directed at a business in Janakpuri.
A dedicated team was set up, consisting of Sub-Inspector Ritvik, Head Constable Neeraj Dixit, HC Dinesh, Constable Pawan, and Ct. Amit, under the leadership of SI Ritvik and the guidance of Inspector Ashu Girotra, the SHO of Hari Nagar police station, along with Niraj Tokas, ACP/Rajouri Garden, and overall oversight from DCP Darade Sharad Bhaskar.
Employing a combination of CCTV footage analysis, technical monitoring, and intelligence from confidential informants, the team executed synchronized raids and follow-up inspections at targeted locations.
This operation culminated in the arrest of three individuals associated with the gang and the recovery of firearms and other materials implicated in the crime.
Two of the apprehended suspects were discovered to have prior criminal histories and had recently been released on bail for similar offenses.
The individuals detained include Gurpreet Singh alias Amit Chandok, aged 37, a resident of Nihal Vihar, who has a record of over 18 cases including snatching, robbery, attempted murder, and extortion. Another is Gurpreet alias Manni, 30 years old, also from Nihal Vihar, with a history of four cases related to extortion and attempted murder. The third suspect is Gurjeet Singh, aged 35, residing in Virender Nagar.
In addition to the recovered firearms and cartridges, police seized the business card of the targeted shop owner along with the clothing worn by the suspects during the crime, as stated in the press release from the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office.
