Both are believed to be habitual offenders with multiple vehicle theft cases registered against them in the district.
In light of a recent surge in two-wheeler thefts within the South-West district, the AATS was tasked with investigating theft sites, scrutinizing CCTV footage, and identifying known offenders. A specialized team was formed under the guidance of Inspector Ram Kumar, head of AATS/South-West District, and under the vigilant oversight of ACP (Operations) Vijay Pal Singh Tomar.
The team's composition comprised ASI Praveen, ASI Jaipal, ASI Dharmender, ASI Vinod Kumar, HC Mohit, HC Narender, HC Ravinder, HC Devender, HC Prashant, HC Manoj Moral, and Constable Praveen. Their responsibilities included gathering local intelligence and monitoring suspicious activities in areas recently affected by thefts.
Through diligent surveillance and the assessment of over 300 CCTV cameras, the team pinpointed two suspects: Rohit, active in the Delhi Cantt Sub-Division, and Pankaj, who operated in the Vasant Kunj Sub-Division. Following secret intelligence, police teams executed separate raids during the night of November 10-11.
In the initial operation, Rohit was caught in the Brahmpuri Sagarpur area while riding a stolen scooter. Upon verification, the vehicle was confirmed stolen in E-FIR No. 029891/25, registered at the Paschim Vihar police station.
In a subsequent operation, Pankaj was apprehended at Bangali Tola Park, Rangpuri Pahadi, while riding a stolen TVS Ntorq scooter, confirmed stolen under E-FIR No. 024991/25 at Vasant Kunj police station.
Further interrogations and raids led to more recoveries. Based on Rohit’s disclosure, police retrieved two stolen scooters from Nala Road near Shakuntla Hospital and one motorcycle from near the petrol station on Pankha Road, Janakpuri. Following Pankaj’s lead, two additional scooters and one motorcycle were found near Arjun Camp, Mahipalpur.
Authorities revealed that Rohit has been identified in CCTV footage linked to E-FIR No. 27557/25 (PS Palam Village) and E-FIR No. 23597/25 (PS Sagarpur), confirming his involvement in several other vehicle thefts.
A senior police official indicated that both suspects have a history of engaging in similar crimes and have sold stolen vehicles to buyers in Delhi and surrounding areas. Ongoing investigations aim to trace their accomplices and identify potential receivers of stolen goods.
