Delhi Police Capture Two Key Associates of Hashim Baba Gang
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In a significant operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell has apprehended two members of the infamous Hashim Baba gang in different raids, which included a fugitive shooter implicated in a murder charge. Authorities seized two loaded semi-automatic firearms along with 11 live rounds from the suspects, as reported by the police.
The arrests were executed by the New Delhi Range team of the Special Cell, as stated by Deputy Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Tripathi, as part of ongoing initiatives to combat organized crime within the city.
The primary suspect, Shadab Ahmad (28), hailing from Jafarabad, was taken into custody on April 11, 2026, in the Gadi Mendu vicinity close to the Signature Bridge in northeast Delhi. He had been evading capture for two years.
From Shadab's possession, police recovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol along with five live cartridges. A case has been registered under pertinent sections of the Arms Act at the Special Cell police station.
Shadab is related to jailed gangster Suhail Chappal and is wanted in connection with FIR No. 127/2024 registered at the Seelampur police station, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
This case relates to an incident on March 9, 2024, in Seelampur, where Shadab and his accomplices allegedly opened fire on rival gang members Arbaz and Abid, resulting in Arbaz's death. Investigations indicated that the murder stemmed from personal vendetta, as Arbaz had reportedly harassed Suhail Chappal in Mandoli Jail.
Shadab was also declared a proclaimed offender in another murder attempt case (FIR No. 394/2020) registered at Jafarabad police station after he failed to appear in court.
Previously, on April 3, another gang member named Mohd. Adi (24), also from Jafarabad, was arrested. Police found a loaded semi-automatic pistol and six live cartridges in his possession. A case has been filed under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act and BNS.
Adi was reportedly working for imprisoned gangsters Asad and Danish, tasked with identifying targets for extortion. He was apprehended based on specific intelligence in northeast Delhi.
