New Delhi, Sep 20 (NationPress) In a significant operation against organized crime, the Delhi Police has apprehended four individuals linked to a notorious gang operating in the Mundka region, notorious for their involvement in the theft of street light poles and electric wires, among other public property.
The successful arrests have resolved eight criminal cases and resulted in the recovery of a considerable amount of stolen public infrastructure, including over 130 kilograms of electrical wires, streetlight poles, iron grills, and various other items.
The incident was initially reported on September 15 when a call to the Police Control Room informed the Mundka police of unidentified individuals engaged in cutting iron grills and poles from fields and loading them onto a truck.
According to police reports, when a concerned citizen confronted the suspects, he was attacked with bricks, prompting the assailants to flee, leaving behind the truck filled with stolen items. An FIR was subsequently lodged under multiple Sections, including 307 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the abandoned vehicle was taken for further investigation.
A specialized police team, led by Inspector Gulshan Kumar Gupta, the Station House Officer of the Mundka Police Station, and supervised by ACP Naresh Kumar Solanki, was formed to pursue the case.
Through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage and vehicle tracking, officers traced the truck's registration to a woman in Jahangirpuri. Upon questioning, she revealed that the truck had been rented to a local man named Rahul. A swift raid at his home led to his arrest after he attempted to escape.
During questioning, Rahul confessed to the theft and provided information on his accomplices: Amar, Akash, and Anil, all from Jahangirpuri. Subsequent raids resulted in their capture. The suspects were presented to the court and remanded for two days of police custody.
Further investigation uncovered additional stolen goods hidden in a warehouse in Bhalswa Dairy. Acting on this intelligence, police recovered a lower section of a streetlight pole, 134 kilograms of stolen electrical wire, several iron grills, a water motor, and an air conditioner compressor.
These recovered items were linked to numerous FIRs registered at PS Mundka. Among the resolved cases are FIR No. 439/25 and seven e-FIRs filed between August and September 2025.
Confirming the arrests and recovery, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Outer District, Sachin Sharma, IPS, stated in an official release, “The police team has effectively dismantled a network involved in widespread theft of public infrastructure. With the capture of four suspects and the retrieval of stolen items, eight criminal cases have been solved. Ongoing investigations will seek to uncover further links or accomplices.”
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul (22), Amar (21), Akash (19), and Anil (19). All four are under further interrogation to fully reveal the extent of the gang's operations. Authorities anticipate additional arrests and recoveries as the investigation continues.
This operation represents a notable achievement for the Outer District police in their efforts to combat organized theft targeting public assets and essential infrastructure.
