Delhi Police Detain Class 12 Student for Threatening 23 Schools via Email

New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) A Class 12 student has been detained after sending bomb threat emails to 23 schools across the city. This action follows a police investigation that uncovered his involvement in these alarming threats.

Initial inquiries indicated that the student was trying to avoid taking his examinations.

The boy targeted numerous educational institutions, excluding his own, with these bomb threat emails.

In recent weeks, a series of bomb threats, which were later confirmed to be hoaxes, created chaos for the police.

Upon receiving these threats, students were evacuated, and bomb squads along with sniffer dogs were deployed to ensure safety.

In response to these incidents, the police and the Education Department organized a seminar to train school teachers on how to handle potential emergencies.

During this period, several airlines also faced bomb hoaxes, causing widespread panic and resulting in emergency landings, which disrupted flight schedules and led to increased fuel consumption.

On December 20 of the previous year, a bomb threat was reported at Delhi Public School (DPS) located in Dwarka.

On December 11, more than 40 schools in Delhi received similar threats demanding ransom, yet no explosives were discovered in any instance.

Additionally, during the same month, the Indian Public School in South Delhi and the Crescent Public School in North West Delhi also received bomb threats, causing significant alarm.

Six schools, including Bhatnagar Public School (Paschim Vihar), Cambridge School (Sriniwaspuri), DPS (East of Kailash), South Delhi Public School (Defence Colony), Delhi Police Public School (Safdarjung Enclave), and Venkatesh Public School (Rohini), were targeted via email.

The emails alleged involvement from a dark web group and contained disturbing details about how the bombs were supposedly positioned to maximize harm while minimizing structural damage.

The Delhi High Court has acknowledged the ongoing hoaxes and has instructed the Delhi government and Delhi Police to formulate a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for managing such emergencies.

Authorities have been mandated to present a thorough action plan by January 2024 to ensure prompt and effective responses to future threats.
