New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) The Delhi Police has filed an FIR against Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister, along with other party officials, for purported violations of the Public Property Act.
The ongoing case is being handled in Rouse Avenue Court, with the next court date set for April 18.
This FIR was filed following an order from a Delhi court, which instructed the police to act against Kejriwal and others based on a complaint submitted by Shiv Kumar Saxena.
Saxena presented evidence in court claiming that large posters and banners associated with AAP were unlawfully displayed in the Dwarka area.
On March 11, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal directed the filing of an FIR concerning the defacement of public property following Saxena's complaint, where he provided visual evidence of unauthorized banners featuring Kejriwal and other AAP leaders throughout the city.
Expressing significant concern over the matter, the court remarked that such unauthorized advertisements not only detract from the city's visual appeal but also create a traffic risk.
The FIR has been registered under Section 3 of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007. The court underscored the necessity for stringent measures due to past incidents involving fatalities linked to falling illegal hoardings.
Besides Kejriwal, the court mandated the registration of an FIR against former MLA Gulab Singh and former councillor Nitika Sharma. The Delhi Police submitted a compliance report to the Rouse Avenue Court, confirming the FIR's filing.
This situation traces back to 2019, when significant hoardings were reportedly set up in Dwarka, resulting in allegations of public fund misappropriation. A complaint was lodged at that time, and now, with the court's directive, police action has commenced.
This development has sparked considerable debate within political circles. While AAP has yet to release an official comment regarding the issue, opposition parties have begun to criticize the party concerning the allegations.
