New Delhi, May 18 (NationPress) The East District Police of Delhi announced on Sunday that they have successfully resolved a case involving criminal intimidation and extortion following the arrest of a suspect.

The apprehended individual has been named as Kartar Bhati, who hails from the village of Jamalpur, Police Station Kasana, in the Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, East District, Delhi, Abhishek Dhania, a 58-year-old businessman named Ramkumar, residing in Sitaram Apartments, IP Extension, Delhi, filed a serious complaint at Police Station Madhu Vihar on May 17. Ramkumar operates a business called Singla Electricals in West Vinod Nagar, Delhi. He reported that on May 11, around 6:50 p.m., two unidentified men entered his shop while he was present with his two sons. One of the men, who identified himself as Kartar Bhati, claimed he was involved in the murder of a person named Bhure. He displayed a pocket diary containing the addresses of the complainant's home and shop, threatening him by stating that he had recently been released from jail and was aware of Ramkumar's wealth.

The DCP revealed that the suspect demanded Rs 50 lakh and issued a menacing threat that Ramkumar would suffer the same fate as Bhure if his demands were not met.

On May 16, Ramkumar received a WhatsApp call from the same individual, identified as Kartar Bhati, reiterating the extortion demand. In response to this complaint, a case was registered at Police Station Madhu Vihar on May 17 under sections u/s 308(4)/3(5) BNS, and an investigation was initiated.

Given the severe nature of the threats and the criminal background, a specialized team comprising members from the Special Staff, Anti-Narcotics Squad, and Police Station Madhu Vihar was swiftly assembled.

This joint operation featured personnel from the Special Staff led by Inspector Jitendra Malik, the Anti-Narcotics Squad led by Inspector Arun Kumar, and Police Station Madhu Vihar led by Inspector Arun Kumar, all working under the supervision of ACP/Madhu Vihar, Tilak Chand Bist.

Under the guidance of Vinit Kumar, Addl DCP-I/East, the police team promptly collected and analyzed CCTV footage from the complainant's shop and nearby areas. The video revealed two suspects interacting with Ramkumar and his sons, facilitating the identification of the main suspect as Kartar Bhati and the accomplice as Nadir aka Sah Alam. Employing real-time intelligence and strategic surveillance, the police team managed to apprehend Kartar Bhati.

“The authorities have also retrieved the diary used for intimidation and the clothing worn during the incident from the suspect's possession. Further interrogation is underway to uncover more connections and details,” stated the DCP.

Kartar Bhati is a notorious criminal with a history of seven previous cases, including violations of the Arms Act, robbery, snatching, and murder, and was recently released from prison in September 2024.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the name Bhure, invoked during the extortion threat, referred to Rahul aka Bhura aka Bhure, a resident of West Vinod Nagar, Delhi, who was killed on June 3, 2020. The case was recorded under Sections 302/392/397/34 IPC and 27 Arms Act at Police Station Mandawali. This reference was evidently an attempt to instill fear in the complainant.
