Delhi's Per Capita Income Surges to Rs 5,31,610, 2.5 Times National Average, Says Economic Survey

New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) With a per capita income of Rs 5,31,610, Delhi's income is projected to be approximately 2.5 times greater than the national average for the fiscal year 2025-26, according to the Economic Survey 2025-26 presented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the State Assembly on Monday.
The report, unveiled on the first day of the Budget Session, indicates that the per capita income is anticipated to grow by 7.92 percent compared to 2024-25.
The survey highlighted that Delhi has consistently maintained a revenue surplus. The projected revenue surplus for 2025-26 (Budget Estimates) stands at Rs 9,661.31 crore, which constitutes 0.73 percent of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
As per the report, tax revenue for the Delhi government in 2025-26 is anticipated to grow by 15.54 percent relative to the previous year (Budget Estimates 2025-26).
In terms of the healthcare sector, the report reflects an enhancement in hospital bed availability per 1,000 individuals.
“The number of beds per 1,000 people rose from 2.73 in 2015-16 to 2.84 in 2025-26 in Delhi. The number of beds in government hospitals has increased from 12,464 in 2020 to 15,659 by December 2025, including 40 multispecialty and super specialty hospitals, 98 allopathic dispensaries, 64 seed primary urban health centers, 370 Ayushman Arogya Mandis, and 48 polyclinics, among others.
Regarding environmental quality and transport, the Survey reported a significant rise in the number of days classified as having 'good air quality,' increasing from 159 days in 2018 to 200 days in 2025.
Highlighting a strong commitment to renewable energy, the report noted that the city has a total capacity of 509 MW, comprising 425 MW from solar and 84 MW from waste-to-energy.
The report also emphasized the prioritization of green transportation, with 20 percent of the budget allocated to public transport and Delhi leading the nation with 4,338 electric buses on the roads.
On the water supply front, the report revealed that approximately 93.5 percent of households in Delhi now have access to piped water.
“During the summer months, water production is consistently maintained at about 1,000 MGD per day, serving around 25 million residents of Delhi through a water supply network that includes 15,700 km of pipelines and over 123 underground reservoirs,” it stated.
In terms of sectoral contributions to the economy, the report indicated that Delhi's economy is heavily service-oriented, with the service sector contributing 86.32 percent to the Gross State Value Added (at current prices) in 2025-26, followed by the secondary sector at 12.88 percent and the primary sector at 0.8 percent.
