Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) Former Prime Minister and JD-S Rajya Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda criticized the Congress party on Monday regarding their accusations of ‘vote chori’, asserting that electoral flaws have existed since the time of India’s inaugural Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
“Even during Nehru’s era, there were various deficiencies in our nation’s electoral framework,” the former Prime Minister remarked while engaging in a discussion about the ‘vote chori’ claims in the Rajya Sabha.
He recalled a correspondence from Jawaharlal Nehru concerning the inclusion of 18,000 voters in Kerala.
Deve Gowda, who held the Prime Minister position from June 1, 1996, to April 21, 1997, reflected on his extensive political journey of over seven decades, during which he has experienced both wins and losses in elections.
“I have never raised concerns about vote theft,” he emphasized.
The former Prime Minister noted that despite addressing issues regarding discrepancies in voter lists, the Congress faced defeats in the recent Bihar elections.
He urged Congress to contemplate their performance in Bihar, especially after a thorough revision of the voter lists.
“Congress secured only six seats in that state,” he pointed out.
Deve Gowda accused the INDIA Bloc of fabricating a misleading narrative against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and constitutional bodies under the guise of “vote chori.”
“Such unfounded allegations will lead to significant repercussions for Congress as they continue to disseminate falsehoods and instill doubt among voters. This strategy will not yield benefits for you,” he remarked.
He reiterated that India is an extensive nation, with Congress governing only a few states.
“Dear friends in the Opposition, remember that using terms like ‘vote chori’ may create trouble for you in the future. It will be challenging to win the battle,” the former Prime Minister cautioned Congress.
Deve Gowda criticized Congress for undermining Prime Minister Modi’s leadership through propaganda related to “vote chori,” only serving to arouse suspicion among voters.
“What has happened to your judgment? You need to reevaluate your approach,” he stated.
He also highlighted the existence of an Election Commission and a Supreme Court in the country, suggesting that Congress should utilize these institutions effectively.
“The Election Commission has instructed all state units to tackle these concerns,” he noted.
In conclusion, Deve Gowda asserted that the public possesses “unwavering faith” in Prime Minister Modi’s administration.
“PM Modi will achieve victory once more in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” the former Prime Minister declared.
