Deve Gowda Lauds Manmohan Singh as a Visionary Leader Who Navigated India Through Economic Crisis

Bengaluru, Dec 27 (NationPress) JD-S supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda conveyed his heartfelt condolences on the loss of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, recognizing him as a leader who adeptly navigated India through a period of acute economic turmoil while serving as Finance Minister."This is an exceedingly sorrowful day. I am profoundly saddened by his departure. I first encountered Dr. Manmohan Singh in 1991, during my initial term in the Lok Sabha. He held the position of Finance Minister in P.V. Narasimha Rao’s administration and implemented numerous initiatives to stabilise the nation’s economic landscape during an era of intense crisis," he stated.

Reflecting on their history, Deve Gowda acknowledged: "I had been quite critical of him and challenged many of his policies. Nevertheless, his introduction of economic reforms such as liberalisation, privatisation, and globalisation ushered in significant transformation and advancement for the nation. It was a landmark achievement.”

At that juncture, India had even committed 130 tons of gold. It was a bleak situation, yet Manmohan Singh executed his duties with exceptional proficiency, he emphasized.

“Through the economic reforms of liberalisation, privatisation, and globalisation, he drew considerable foreign direct investment to India. Prior to his role as Finance Minister, he amassed invaluable global experience, establishing him as an outstanding economist.”

"Manmohan Singh epitomized simplicity, honesty, and sincerity. Regardless of political differences, we honor him for his integrity. On behalf of our party and personally, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has also paid tribute to this extraordinary leader."

Highlighting Manmohan Singh’s contributions, Deve Gowda remarked: "As an economic authority in Narasimha Rao’s government, he salvaged the nation’s esteem and extricated it from financial peril. I offer my prayers for his soul to find peace and for his family to possess the resilience to cope with this loss.”

Emphasizing Manmohan Singh’s extensive service to the country, he stated: "He was a statesman and a senior leader who dedicated decades to serving the nation. His passing at the age of 92 represents a tremendous personal loss for me. May God bestow eternal peace upon his soul and grant his family the strength to face this grief."
