FM Sitharaman Honors Dr. Singh's 1991 Budget That Transformed Indian Economy

New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) Leading political figures and business leaders gathered to express their grief over the loss of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, acknowledging that his leadership, humility, and dedication will be remembered for generations.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized his role as a visionary, noting that Dr. Singh held key positions as both the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and Finance Minister of India.
“He presented the groundbreaking budget of 1991 that initiated the liberalization of the Indian economy. He was a figure of respect, known for his gentleness and soft-spoken nature. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends,” FM Sitharaman shared on the X social media platform.
Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, expressed his profound sorrow at the loss of the former Prime Minister and esteemed economist.
“His substantial contributions to India's economic reforms paved a new trajectory for the nation’s development. A political giant, his wisdom, humility, and commitment to public service garnered respect across the political spectrum,” Goyal remarked on X.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Electronics and IT, stated: “I am saddened by the passing of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. His leadership, humility, and dedication will always be honored.”
Harsh Goenka, Chairman of RPG Enterprises, commented that Dr. Singh was a true statesman whose calm demeanor concealed his transformative influence.
“An architect of economic reforms, he molded modern India with intellect, grace, and integrity. A leader who demonstrated that actions speak louder than words. Rest in peace,” Goenka posted on X.
Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, expressed: “Farewell Dr. Manmohan Singh. Your love for this nation and your service will always be remembered. Om Shanti.”
Dr. Singh was a figure of humility and intellect, earning respect both nationally and internationally. Under his guidance, India achieved consistent economic growth, decreased poverty, and enhanced its status globally.
He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters.
