Gurugram, April 16 (NationPress) A dhaba proprietor was gunned down by three assailants on motorcycles in the Pataudi region of Gurugram due to an ongoing feud, according to police reports released on Wednesday.
The shooting took place late on Tuesday night at 'Jhopdi Dhaba'.
The attackers requested a soft drink before opening fire on the dhaba owner, known as Deepender, alias Monu (37), hailing from Jatauli, and his employee, Mahender (50), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, according to police.
Upon hearing the gunshots, staff and bystanders rushed to the scene, but the assailants had already escaped.
The injured were transported to Pataudi Government Hospital, where doctors pronounced Deepender dead, while Mahender was referred to Gurugram.
Rohit, Deepender's brother, reported: "Three individuals arrived at the dhaba on a motorcycle with their faces concealed and requested a cold drink. They opened fire on my brother, injuring a worker in the process."
Following Rohit's complaint, authorities filed a case under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita at the Pataudi police station in Gurugram.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a man named Inderjeet, also from Jatauli, was murdered in 2020, with Rohit being implicated in the crime, stated Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for the Gurugram Police.
It is alleged that Rohit, along with Hrithik, Amit, Jai Bhagwan, and Vikas, were involved in the 2020 murder case.
"Of the accused, Hrithik and Amit are Inderjeet's nephews. The murder of Deepender is believed to stem from a longstanding feud," Rohit explained.
The police noted that the assailants may have intended to target Rohit, but further clarity will emerge upon the suspects' capture.
"CCTV footage from the incident location and surrounding areas will be reviewed to identify the perpetrators," Sandeep Kumar confirmed.
Last month, a 50-year-old liquor contractor, Baljeet Singh, from Hayatpur village in Gurugram, was allegedly shot dead due to business rivalry. The suspect in that case has since been apprehended.
