Digvijaya Singh Hosts Exclusive Screening of 'Jungle Satyagraha' at Madhya Pradesh Assembly

Bhopal, Jan 13 (NationPress) An exclusive screening of 'Jungle Satyagraha' - a film rooted in a true account that showcases a tribal uprising against oppressive British colonial rule, was held at the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on Monday.

This special screening was orchestrated by former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, in the assembly auditorium, drawing the presence of numerous Congress figures, including PCC President Jitu Patwari and Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar.

Attendees also included Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Secretary A.P. Singh and two former MLAs from Betul, who played roles in the film, Sukhdev Panse and Dharmu Singh Sirsam, along with the film's director and producer, Pradeep Uike.

According to Digvijaya Singh's office, members of the ruling BJP, such as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, were invited to view the film but did not attend. State BJP chief V.D. Sharma was also invited but similarly did not show up.

“This film narrates the origins of the tribal movement against British oppression. I urge the citizens of our state to view it to understand how our tribal heroes battled for their rights and unity,” stated Digvijaya Singh.

The film sheds light on the tribal movement that emerged in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district during the 1930s, featuring characters from the tribal communities of Betul and Chhindwara.

'Jungle Satyagraha' depicts the tribals' struggle through a peaceful civil disobedience campaign against British rule.

Director Pradeep Uike, a resident of Betul, mentioned that the film's journey commenced at Banjari Dhaal in Betul district, which was previously a part of Madhya Bharat.

“The film showcases local tribal actors and was predominantly shot in the Betul and Chhindwara districts. The premiere at the Vidhan Sabha marks a significant recognition milestone for this movement,” Uike added.

He further expressed that the film pays homage to key figures of the movement, including Sardar Ganjan Singh Korku, Sardar Vishnu Singh Gond, Thakur Mohkam Singh, Ramji Korku, and Jugru Gond.

It is noteworthy that the Rampur police station in Betul, where tribal freedom fighters were detained and tortured, has been transformed into a museum to honor the legacy of the Jungle Satyagraha.

Previously, Digvijaya Singh had urged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to declare 'Jungle Satyagraha' tax-exempt in the state, although the government has yet to make any official announcement regarding this request.
