Ayodhya, March 26 (NationPress) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and prominent Congress figure Digvijaya Singh is set to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya today, marking his inaugural trip to the temple city since the laying of the foundation stone for the shrine.

As per his schedule, Singh is expected to land at the Ayodhya airport around 9:40 a.m. He will then engage in prayer rituals at significant religious locations, including Hanumangarhi, the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, and Kanak Bhawan.

This visit has reignited political discourse between the BJP and Congress, with leaders from both parties exchanging pointed comments regarding the timing and purpose of Singh's trip.

The BJP has criticized Singh, pointing out that the Congress leadership was previously invited to the consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple but opted not to attend.

BJP MLA from Bhopal, Rameshwar Sharma, who frequently targets Singh in discussions of Lord Ram, made a remark aimed at the former CM. He stated, “I would urge him during his visit to the Ram Temple to honor the martyrs who faced gunfire in 1992.”

Sharma continued, expressing that had political leaders recognized this truth earlier, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya would have been constructed much sooner.

He added, “As you pay your respects today to the very Ram Lalla whom your party once dismissed as a mythical figure, acknowledge that Ram Lalla is not a mere illusion but a living reality.”

In response to the criticism, Congress members defended Singh's faith, labeling the remarks as politically charged. Party spokesperson Jitendra Mishra asserted that Singh's devotion should not be questioned, highlighting his contributions toward the temple's establishment.

“There’s no need to validate Digvijay Singh's commitment to Sanatan traditions. BJP leaders should clarify what they have accomplished for the public,” Mishra stated.

In 2021, Singh contributed Rs 1,11,111 towards the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, sending the cheque to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

He also expressed intentions to visit and pray once the temple is fully constructed. Meanwhile, the priest of the Hanuman Garhi Temple, Mahant Raju Das, commented on the irony that those who once labeled Lord Ram as 'imaginary' are now visiting the temple.

Speaking to IANS, Das remarked, ''People used to claim there was no change, no change, PM Modi did nothing. But in truth, PM Modi has changed everyone’s hearts... Who is at the feet of Ramji? Digvijay Singh. Who is seeking refuge in Lord Ram? Those who once referred to Ram as imaginary.''

It also serves as a focal point for political discourse, revealing deep-seated sentiments and rivalries between major parties. The reactions from BJP leaders underscore the ongoing tensions as the nation navigates its religious and political landscapes.
