Chennai, Jan 28 (NationPress) As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections draw near, the discussions around alliance arrangements between Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Congress have gained significant traction after an important meeting held in Delhi.

DMK Parliamentary Party leader Kanimozhi engaged in a crucial dialogue with senior Congress figure Rahul Gandhi at his residence, focusing on seat-sharing and alliance strategies.

Sources indicate that the meeting between Kanimozhi and Rahul Gandhi extended for about an hour, marking a pivotal move towards solidifying the DMK–Congress partnership for the forthcoming state elections.

During their talks, Kanimozhi reportedly presented a draft list of Assembly seats that the DMK is prepared to offer to its allies, including Congress.

The negotiations were primarily centered on determining the number of seats Congress should contest and identifying the most appropriate Assembly constituencies, taking into consideration the historical electoral performance and local political dynamics.

Reports suggest that DMK leadership has expressed a willingness to allocate 27 Assembly seats to Congress, in addition to support for one extra Rajya Sabha seat as part of the broader alliance agreement.

However, Congress is said to be advocating for a larger allocation, requesting up to 30 Assembly seats.

While no official statement was issued post-meeting, insiders described the discussions as optimistic and forward-thinking.

Both parties appear eager to avoid lengthy negotiations, aiming to expedite consensus to concentrate on campaign strategies and candidate selection.

Kanimozhi also reportedly expressed her concerns regarding recent comments made by certain Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu regarding alliance matters.

She urged Rahul Gandhi to prevent internal disagreements from becoming public, highlighting that such remarks could undermine the perception of unity within the coalition.

Emphasizing the need for solidarity, Kanimozhi conveyed to Rahul Gandhi that both factions must transcend their differences and collaborate effectively as the state Assembly elections approach.

A unified stance, she noted, is essential for effectively countering the Opposition and maintaining voter confidence.

The meeting between Kanimozhi and Rahul Gandhi occurs amid increased political engagement in Tamil Nadu, with all major parties ramping up election preparations.

With both DMK and Congress keen on sustaining their alliance in Tamil Nadu, further discussions are anticipated soon to resolve differences and finalize the seat-sharing arrangement.
