Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati Takes Office as the New Governor of Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 3 (NationPress) Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati was officially sworn in as the new Governor of Odisha on Friday. The oath ceremony was conducted by Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh of the Orissa High Court at a special event held at the Abhishek Hall within the Raj Bhavan.

After the ceremony, he received a guard of honour at the Raj Bhavan.

Dr. Kambhampati replaces Raghubar Das, who recently stepped down from his position citing personal reasons.

Among those present at the oath-taking ceremony were Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and other notable dignitaries.

Before the ceremony, Dr. Kambhampati arrived at Bhubaneswar Airport on Thursday afternoon and received a guard of honour there before proceeding to the Raj Bhavan.

Later that evening, he visited the coastal town of Puri and offered prayers at the Jagannath Temple.

It is noteworthy that on December 24, 2024, the President of India appointed Mizoram Governor Kambhampati as the new Governor of Odisha. He holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering from Andhra University and has completed an M.E. in Electrical & Control Systems, along with a PhD in Control Systems from the same university.

Dr. Kambhampati served as an Associate Professor for 24 years at the Andhra University Engineering College.

Additionally, he participated in the Lok Sangharsh Samithi Agitation under Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan during the 1974-1975 emergency and was detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA).

In 1977, he was appointed as the Andhra Pradesh State Executive Member of the Janata Party.

Dr. Kambhampati served as the Andhra Pradesh BJP State President from 2014 to 2018.

The former governor of Odisha, Raghubar Das, faced several controversies during his tenure, including criticism from the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress party regarding an alleged assault on an Assistant Section Officer by his son during the Puri Rath Yatra last year.

The opposition also accused Das of using the Odisha Raj Bhavan as a base for the Jharkhand Assembly elections.
