Key Takeaways
Imphal, Dec 9 (NationPress) It is anticipated that President Droupadi Murmu will embark on a two-day journey to Manipur from December 11-12, during which she will take part in the 86th Nupi Lal Day commemoration at the Nupi Lal Complex in Imphal, as reported by sources on Tuesday.
Even though officials have not yet disclosed the President's official schedule, preparations are in full swing in the capital of Manipur, Imphal, for Murmu's anticipated visit.
A senior official from the Manipur government mentioned that they have not received any formal itinerary from the President’s secretariat in Delhi, but they have been instructed “to ensure security and other necessary arrangements for a VVIP visit.” The road stretching 7 kilometers from Imphal’s Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex is currently being refurbished, repainted, and decorated with vibrant flags and other materials.
A large banner welcoming the President has also been displayed near Keishampat Junction along the route to the airport.
Some militant groups have reportedly called for a “total shutdown” to protest the President’s visit to the Northeastern region.
In addition to attending the Nupi Lal Day observance, Murmu is expected to visit the memorial complex on December 12 to pay homage to the women freedom fighters. The Nupi Lal events, celebrated annually on December 12, commemorate two women-led movements in 1904 and 1939 that opposed British colonial policies.
Sources indicate that the President may also visit the Senapati district, inhabited by the Naga tribe, to attend an event on December 12.
Meanwhile, during his visit to Manipur on September 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the Union government is continually striving for the development of the state, as a 'Viksit Bharat' will be further strengthened by a 'Viksit Manipur'. He expressed that any form of violence in Manipur is regrettable, given its rich cultural heritage of fighting against injustice.
From the historic Kangla Fort in Imphal, the Prime Minister launched 17 infrastructure projects totaling an investment of Rs 1,200 crore.
Among these projects, the Prime Minister inaugurated Manipur Bhawan in Dwarka, Delhi, and Salt Lake City in Kolkata, along with the Civil Secretariat, New Police Headquarters, and a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) building at Mantripukhri in the Imphal West district, as well as All-Women Markets at four locations (Tengnoupal, Noney, Pallel, Moirang).
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stones for 19 development projects valued at Rs 7,300 crore for various regions of Manipur from the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, a district predominantly inhabited by tribal communities.
