In preparation for this significant event, extensive arrangements are being made in the capital city of Imphal, with various departments collaborating to ensure a successful program.
Upon her arrival in Imphal on Thursday, the President will receive a guard of honour and will then proceed to the historic Imphal Polo Ground (known as Mapal Kangjeibung) to observe a polo exhibition match. This venue is recognized as one of the world's oldest polo grounds, having recently hosted the 15th Manipur International Polo Tournament.
On Thursday evening, a civic reception will be held in her honour at the City Convention Centre in Imphal. The President will also lay foundation stones and inaugurate several developmental projects, highlighting the Centre's commitment to the region.
On December 12, she will visit the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal to pay homage to the brave women warriors of Manipur. Following this, she will head to Senapati, a district predominantly inhabited by the Naga community, where she will address a public event and inaugurate various projects for the district.
To commemorate her visit, both sides of the 7-km stretch from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex are undergoing repairs and beautification, with colorful flags and banners installed to welcome her.
Nupi Lal, observed annually on December 12, commemorates two significant women-led movements in 1904 and 1939 against British colonial policies, asserting the rights and dignity of Manipuri women.
This visit marks the second high-profile visit to Manipur in three months, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on September 13.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the Union government's ongoing efforts for the state's development, asserting that a Viksit Bharat is tied to a Viksit Manipur.
He remarked on the unfortunate nature of any violence in Manipur, a region rich in traditions of resisting injustice. In Imphal, from the historic Kangla Fort, he inaugurated 17 infrastructure projects with a total investment of Rs 1,200 crore.
These projects included the Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi and Kolkata, the Civil Secretariat, a new Police Headquarters, and the Special Economic Zone building at Mantripukhri. Additionally, Ima Markets (women-only markets) were inaugurated at four locations: Tengnoupal, Noney, Pallel, and Moirang.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for 19 development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore for various parts of Manipur from the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, a district inhabited primarily by tribal communities.
