Speaking at a civic reception organized by the Manipur government at the City Convention Centre, the President noted that the residents of Manipur have endured unfortunate violence for several months, and that the Centre is fully cognizant of the challenges they face.

She affirmed the government's dedication to fostering harmony, ensuring safety, and aiding Manipur's development journey.

"The government has initiated multiple measures to encourage balanced development in Manipur and to guarantee that progress extends to every area of the state," President Murmu remarked.

She highlighted that the government has launched various schemes and projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and rural development, resulting in significant advancements in the state.

During the civic reception, the President laid the foundation stones for 14 projects totaling Rs 1180 crore and inaugurated 12 projects amounting to Rs 207 crore across different regions of Manipur.

These initiatives encompass areas such as education, sports, health, tribal development, agriculture, energy, the construction of guest houses, training facilities, community and security infrastructure, Ima markets (all-women markets), traditional crafts, handloom, handicrafts, urban development, road infrastructure, and public services.

The President remarked that these projects are set to enhance the quality of life for the people of Manipur.

"These new efforts will not only promote tribal development but also help shape a more modern and inclusive Manipur. They are expected to create jobs and stimulate economic activities," she noted.

The President characterized Manipur as a land filled with resilience, bravery, and remarkable cultural heritage.

Over the years, its inhabitants have significantly contributed to various fields such as sports, the armed forces, art, culture, and public service, she stated.

Highlighting Manipur's role as a gateway to India's dynamic interaction with South-east Asia, Murmu remarked that its youth, culture, and natural beauty render it a state of limitless potential. She also acknowledged the strength of its self-empowered women.

She recalled the historic Nupi Lal or women’s wars, which occurred twice in the early 20th century, led by the courageous women of Manipur, who successfully compelled colonial and feudal powers to recognize their rightful demands.

"They serve as an inspiration for every Indian," added the President.

Expressing her belief in the talent and diligence of the people of Manipur, she expressed optimism that residents from both the valley and the hills would unite in renewed harmony, propelling the state towards greater prosperity and joy.

The President urged the citizens of Manipur to continue backing initiatives aimed at fostering harmony and development.

Murmu stated, "Together, we should fortify Manipur as a state where every child feels secure, every woman feels empowered, every community feels included, and every citizen strives for a brighter future."

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also spoke at the civic reception.

Prior to the civic reception, the President attended a polo exhibition match at the historic Imphal Polo Ground, acknowledged as one of the oldest polo grounds globally.

President Murmu arrived in Imphal on Thursday afternoon for her inaugural two-day visit to the state, which has been under President’s Rule since February 13 due to extended ethnic violence.

Governor Bhalla welcomed her at Bir Tikendrajit Airport, where she was given a guard of honor upon arrival. Other officials present included Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, along with other senior civil, security, and military personnel.

This marks her first visit to Manipur since taking office and follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state on September 13, his first since the outbreak of ethnic unrest in May 2023.

Officials reported that security has been intensified in Imphal and the Senapati district, predominantly inhabited by Naga tribes.

Various departments and agencies are collaborating closely to ensure a seamless visit. The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), the apex organization of the Kuki-Zo tribes in Manipur, warmly welcomed the President's visit.

On Friday, the President will visit the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal to honor the courageous women warriors of Manipur.

The Nupi Lal observance, held annually on December 12, commemorates two women-led movements in 1904 and 1939 against British colonial policies.
