Imphal, Dec 11 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu emphasized on Thursday that the Indian government is steadfast in its support for each affected family in Manipur, asserting that addressing the populace's concerns is the foremost priority of the administration.

During a civic reception organized in her honor by the Manipur government at the City Convention Centre, the President remarked that the people of Manipur have endured unfortunate violence for several months, and the Centre is fully cognizant of the challenges they have faced.

She reiterated the government's dedication to fostering harmony, ensuring security, and aiding Manipur in its developmental journey.

"The administration has implemented various measures to encourage equitable development in Manipur and ensure that progress reaches every area of the state," stated President Murmu.

She highlighted that several initiatives and projects have been launched to enhance connectivity, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and rural development, which have resulted in significant improvements for the state.

At the civic reception, the President laid the foundation stones for 14 projects worth Rs 1180 crore and inaugurated 12 projects valued at Rs 207 crore across various regions of Manipur.

These projects encompass education, sports, health, tribal development, agriculture, power and renewable energy, construction of guest houses, training facilities, community and security infrastructure, Ima markets (women-led markets), traditional industries, handloom and handicrafts, urban development, roads, and public services.

The President noted that these initiatives are poised to enhance the quality of life for the people of Manipur.

"These new endeavors will foster tribal development and contribute to a more modern and inclusive Manipur. They will stimulate employment opportunities and accelerate economic activities," she emphasized.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also spoke at the civic reception event. Prior to the reception, the President attended a polo exhibition match at the historic Imphal Polo Ground (known as Mapal Kangjeibung), recognized as one of the oldest polo grounds globally. President Murmu arrived in Imphal on Thursday afternoon for her inaugural two-day visit to the state, which has been under President’s Rule since February 13 due to prolonged ethnic violence. Governor Bhalla welcomed her at Bir Tikendrajit Airport.

She was accorded a guard of honor upon her arrival.

Also present were Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, and other senior officials from civil, security, and military sectors.

This marks her first visit to Manipur since taking office.

The President’s visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tour of the state on September 13, which was his first since the ethnic unrest began in May 2023.

Officials indicated that security has been heightened in Imphal and the Senapati district, predominantly inhabited by Naga tribes.

Various departments and agencies are working collaboratively to ensure the visit proceeds smoothly. The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), the leading body for the Kuki-Zo tribes in Manipur, has warmly welcomed the President’s visit.

On Friday, the President plans to visit the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal to honor the brave women warriors of Manipur.

Annually observed on December 12, Nupi Lal commemorates two women-led protests in 1904 and 1939 against British colonial policies.

Subsequently, in the Senapati district, she will address a public gathering and lay foundation stones as well as inaugurate various projects for the district.
