Guwahati, May 26 (NationPress) In a remarkable step forward in the state's persistent battle against drug-related crimes, the Assam Police confiscated 324 grams of heroin with an estimated worth of Rs 2 crore during a focused anti-drug initiative in the Sribhumi district, as reported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The operation unfolded under the jurisdiction of Patharkandi Police Station in the Mundamala area, leading to the arrest of three individuals suspected of drug trafficking.

Chief Minister Sarma took to the social media platform X to announce the success, commending the dedication of the Karimganj police.

A Defence Spokesman confirmed that the Assam Rifles apprehended a drug trafficker and seized a substantial cache of illegal narcotics from Noney district in Manipur on Wednesday night.

The suspect was transporting drugs in a truck from Imphal to Jiribam via National Highway-37.

Acting on intelligence from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence regarding possible drug trafficking, Assam Rifles personnel set up a checkpost in Noney where they halted a vehicle fitting the description.

During the search, officials discovered 569.24 grams of heroin along with significant quantities of amphetamine/methamphetamine tablets, valued at Rs 5 crore, hidden in 50 soap cases and 49 sachets.
