Chandigarh, July 4 (NationPress) In an embodiment of the Punjab government’s unwavering stance against corruption, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Crime Against Women (CAW) Rajanpal, stationed in Faridkot, has been suspended for attempting to bribe the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
According to reports, a few days prior, the SSP Faridkot received a complaint against DSP Rajanpal, where the complainant accused him of accepting money to resolve a matrimonial dispute and sought action against him.
Revealing further details, an official spokesperson of the Punjab Police indicated that DSP Rajanpal attempted to offer a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to the SSP’s office to dismiss the complaint lodged against him.
In a decisive move, the spokesperson noted that the Faridkot Police have initiated a criminal case against the implicated DSP and have apprehended him. Rigorous departmental proceedings will be initiated against the officer in accordance with Punjab Civil Services regulations, he added.
“The Punjab government is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within the police force. Any officer found engaging in corrupt activities will face severe legal and disciplinary repercussions,” stated the spokesperson. In this context, a case has been filed under Sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station City Faridkot.
The arrest of the police official follows two days after the Vigilance Bureau detained Head Constable Raj Kumar, who was serving as the assistant reader to the DSP of Bhucho, Ravinder Singh. He was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was filed at the Vigilance Bureau’s police station in the Bathinda range. Similarly, DSP Harbans Singh Dhaliwal, who was serving as DSP in Bathinda, was suspended last month for purported misconduct in managing organized crime cases.
