New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha experienced a heated exchange between the treasury benches and the opposition on Tuesday as members engaged in a debate concerning the no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla. During this discourse, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey staunchly defended the Speaker while launching a pointed critique at the opposition, specifically targeting Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

Dubey contended that past parliamentary disagreements had never escalated to such drastic measures against the Speaker. Citing previous disruptions and confrontations among various parties, he emphasized that despite severe political tensions, the BJP had never endorsed any action undermining the Speaker’s authority.

In his address, Dubey showcased a book in the House and made observations regarding India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. He questioned several historical decisions made by Nehru, including the management of the Sino-Indian War of 1962 and various aspects of India’s foreign policy during that era.

His statements prompted strong objections from the opposition, with numerous members vocally protesting the references made during the debate.

Dubey also specifically accused Rahul Gandhi of disseminating what he labeled as “propaganda” against the government. He criticized Gandhi’s speeches abroad and questioned remarks made about Indian institutions, such as the Election Commission of India.

Additionally, Dubey alleged that Gandhi had frequently made statements overseas that cast a negative light on India’s democratic processes. He raised concerns about the frequency of foreign trips taken by the Congress leader.

In his defense of the Speaker, Dubey asserted that Birla maintained impartiality during House proceedings. He claimed that the Speaker treated all political factions equitably and had never made decisions under pressure from any specific group.

He pointed out that Birla continually emphasized the importance of respecting parliamentary traditions and the dignity of the Lok Sabha. Despite ongoing disruptions and political confrontations in recent years, Dubey stated that the Speaker had consistently aimed to conduct proceedings within the bounds of constitutional and parliamentary regulations.

Furthermore, the BJP MP highlighted that opposition members were given ample opportunities to voice their opinions. He noted that leaders from opposition parties had been allocated time under parliamentary rules to express their concerns and engage in debates.

Emphasizing Birla’s approach during challenging times, Dubey remarked that the Speaker exhibited patience and restraint, even amid significant disruptions in the House. He also referenced Birla’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the Speaker ensured that parliamentary proceedings continued safely while prioritizing the health and safety of Members of Parliament.

According to Dubey, Birla’s leadership has played a vital role in enhancing democratic processes and preserving the dignity of parliamentary institutions, all while ensuring the Lok Sabha operates effectively.
