Will Nishikant Dubey's Words Ignite a Political Firestorm?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 4 (NationPress) Amidst the ongoing turmoil in Lok Sabha due to heated exchanges between the government and the Opposition, tensions have escalated significantly. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey transformed the debate into a literary contest, juxtaposing unpublished and published works.
During his address in Lok Sabha, Dubey referenced several published books concerning former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten, making serious allegations.
In response to strong protests from Congress MPs regarding his references to Nehru, Dubey unveiled a letter allegedly written by the first Prime Minister, reigniting the BJP-Congress feud.
Taking to his official X account, Dubey stated, "If I say something, there will be an uproar -- will it incite Congress’s Lanka? Will the Nehru-Gandhi family become my adversary?"
Earlier, Dubey had unleashed a fierce critique against the Gandhi family, citing troubling information from published sources.
He accused the family of utilizing "lies and deceit" to fracture the nation and criticized Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for supposedly holding the House hostage for three consecutive days.
"Rahul Gandhi ji, for the last three days, you have held Parliament captive over an unpublished book. Let’s engage in a debate about some printed work as well. The legacy of the Gandhi/Nehru family is marred by lies, deceit, corruption, and division," Dubey asserted.
While making these claims, he faced interruptions from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who invoked Rule 349, prohibiting members from reading from any book, newspaper, or letter unless it pertains directly to House business.
Despite Speaker Birla's objections, Dubey attempted to defend his statements by claiming they were citations from a published work.
As the Opposition erupted in protests, the House was adjourned until 5 p.m.
Later, addressing the media, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed outrage over the invocation of her family's name and legacy, accusing the Speaker of bias and labeling the incident a tactic by the Central government to distract from pressing national issues and silence dissent.
