Kolkata, Oct 15 (NationPress) BJP Lok Sabha representative from the Balasore constituency in Odisha, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, on Wednesday, criticized the West Bengal Police for issuing inconsistent statements regarding the gangrape of a second-year student at a private medical college and hospital in Durgapur, West Burdwan district, last week.
Currently touring West Bengal as part of a three-member BJP delegation to assess the situation following the gangrape incident, Sarangi visited Raj Bhavan in Kolkata to meet with Governor C.V. Ananda Bose to address the issue.
In a media interaction, he accused the West Bengal Police of contradicting themselves in their statements concerning the case.
“Initially, the police stated it was a gangrape. Now they are suggesting it may have been a case of rape. I spoke with the victim, who is struggling with depression and likely under considerable pressure. It remains to be determined whether the six arrested individuals are genuinely guilty or merely being scapegoated,” Sarangi remarked.
He further shared that the Odisha BJP delegation was initially barred from meeting the victim under the guise of protocol. “The victim and her family are constituents in my Lok Sabha area, so I felt it was my duty to meet them. I did not anticipate such treatment from the police as an elected official,” Sarangi added.
