West Bengal Election Update: ECI to Provide Draft Voters’ List to Political Parties
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, February 27 (NationPress) As the final voters’ list for West Bengal is set to be published this Saturday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has opted to provide electronic copies of the list to registered political parties in the state, promoting transparency.
Simultaneously, the ECI is offering several methods for voters to verify their names against the final list, which will now include two new categories: ‘under adjudication’ and ‘deleted’, in addition to the names of verified voters.
The first method involves visiting the official website of the Election Commission of India at eci.gov.in. Voters can input their names and EPIC numbers to check their status.
Another option is to go to the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's website at ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in.
Voters can also visit the websites of their respective district electoral officers (DEOs) for name verification.
In addition to these online resources, the ECI has made provisions for offline verification. Copies of the final voters’ list will be distributed to booth-level officers (BLOs), allowing voters to contact their BLOs for assistance.
Moreover, hard copies of the final voters’ list will be displayed at polling booths across various regions, enabling voters to check their names in person.
As previously stated, the final voters' list will categorize names under three distinct headings: ‘under adjudication’, ‘deleted’, and the names of registered voters.
The ‘under adjudication’ category will list voters whose identity documents are still pending review by designated judicial officers, as mandated by the Supreme Court. These voters will be marked as ‘under adjudication’ in the final voters’ list.
Supplementary lists will be issued subsequently, containing the names of voters in the ‘under adjudication’ category once their documents have been reviewed and cleared.
The third category will include voters who have been excluded during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, which commenced last November. Names of these voters will appear under the ‘deleted’ category in the final voters’ list.
