Enhanced Surveillance with Additional CCTVs in Bengal Villages to Combat Infiltration from Bangladesh

Kolkata, Dec 28 (NationPress) In light of persistent warnings from intelligence agencies about widespread illegal infiltration from neighboring Bangladesh, a local panchayat body in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal has taken the initiative to install additional CCTV cameras in villages near the India-Bangladesh border.

The Chaygharia village panchayat, located under Petrapole Police in the Bangaon sub-division of North 24 Parganas, is the first rural civic body in the state to embark on such a project autonomously.

As part of this endeavor, a total of 50 new CCTV cameras have been deployed in the region.

A representative from the Chaygharia village panchayat stated that while the primary responsibility for curbing illegal infiltration lies with the Border Security Force (BSF) and the state police, the panchayat authorities felt a moral duty to contribute by enhancing surveillance in the area.

"The situation in Bangladesh is quite tense. In this context, the risk of illegal infiltration rises significantly, especially since much of the area governed by the panchayat is in close proximity to the border. With the installation of these CCTV cameras, almost the entire region is under round-the-clock surveillance," explained Uma Ghosh, a member of the Chaygharia village panchayat.

In parallel, both the state police and the BSF have begun to consistently remind village residents to report any suspicious activities involving outsiders or newcomers in their communities.

Homeowners have also been advised to verify the credentials of individuals they are renting rooms to and to provide their identity information to the local police station.

Recent alerts from central agencies have indicated a noticeable increase in the number of outsiders renting homes in villages adjacent to the border.
