New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Sunday that critical conversations were conducted regarding national security and cybercrime challenges during the DG-IG Conference in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

“In-depth discussions unfolded on the second day of the DGP/IGP Conference in Bhubaneswar. The agenda prominently featured key dialogues on national security challenges, urban policing, and contemporary threats such as cybercrime and the misuse of AI,” PM Modi expressed on X after addressing the 59th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police.

“I emphasized the necessity of SMART policing, utilizing Artificial Intelligence, and modernizing our forces to equip them for future challenges,” the Prime Minister noted on X.

PM Modi further called on the police to focus on modernization and align with the vision of 'Viksit Bharat', advocating the use of technology to alleviate the workload of constables.

According to the PMO's statement: "During the valedictory session, PM Modi awarded the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to officers from the Intelligence Bureau. In his concluding remarks, he acknowledged the extensive discussions held during the conference regarding both national and international security challenges and expressed satisfaction with the counter-strategies developed from these discussions."

While addressing attendees, PM Modi expressed concern over the potential threats posed by digital fraud, cyber-crimes, and AI technology, highlighting the risks of deepfakes disrupting social and family dynamics.

"As a countermeasure, he urged police leadership to transform the challenge into an opportunity by leveraging India's dual AI strengths of Artificial Intelligence and 'Aspirational India'," the statement indicated.

Moreover, PM Modi expanded on the concept of SMART policing, urging the police to be strategic, meticulous, adaptable, reliable, and transparent.

"Discussions also encompassed emerging security concerns along the border with Bangladesh and Myanmar, trends in urban policing, and strategies to counteract harmful narratives. Additionally, a review of the enforcement of newly established major criminal laws, initiatives, and effective policing practices was conducted, alongside an evaluation of the security situation in neighboring regions. PM Modi offered critical insights during the proceedings and charted a roadmap for the future," it stated.
